Save vs. Player Agency

I have been playing tabletop RPGs for over 25 years, when I bought the “black box” basic Dungeons & Dragons set. The main quality roleplaying games have which has sustained my interest in them for a quarter of a century can probably be distilled into the concept of “player agency”. Rather than the story and setting of the game being the vision of an author, director, or designer, tabletop roleplaying games have the capacity to allow all players to be participants in meaningfully shaping the game and its outcomes. As such, RPGs sustain my interest more than even the very best fiction, and more than any computer game or conventional board game.

This blog is intended to be a place where I share my thoughts about roleplaying games.
